Depart Australia on Singapore Airlines

EVENING

Depart Singapore at 10.40pm on Singapore Airlines flight 468.

Arrive into Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport at 11.55pm.After clearing customs and immigration, you will be met and transferred by coach to the hotel.

Overnight: at the historic Galle Face Hotel, Colombo

Monday 12 June - COLOMBO

MORNING

Depart the hotel on a city tour of Colombo, visiting Geoffrey Bawa’s Colombo home, and the National Museum.

AFTERNOON

Continue to the Dutch Hospital, a heritage complex dating back to the Dutch colonial period, and now a dining and shopping precinct.

Lunch: own arrangements,

After the break visit the Gangarama Temple and on to the Barefoot complex – shop, gallery, café and bar. This is a favourite spot for creative locals and visitors alike. It was founded in the 1960’s by the influential artist and designer,  Barbara Sansoni.

EVENING

Time to relax back at our hotel .

Dinner: Board the coach for the short drive to Paradise Road The Gallery Café for our welcome dinner, including drinks.

Tuesday 13 June - COLOMBO TO ANURADHAPURA

MORNING

Depart Colombo this morning for the 260km drive to Anuradhapura, passing through many colourful small towns en route.

AFTERNOON

Lunch: A light lunch of Sri Lankan snacks at Monsoon Villa, Puttalam.

Early afternoon check in to our hotel.

Late afternoon we depart for a game drive in nature’s sanctuary, the Wilpattu National Park.

EVENING

Dinner: at the hotel.

Overnight: Forest Rock Garden Resort, Anuradhapura – a boutique resort designed in the style of the ancient kingdom of Anuradhapura.

Wednesday 14 June - ANURADHAPURA TO DAMBULLA

MORNING

Visit Anuradhapura ancient city and the Aukana Buddha statue.

AFTERNOON

Lunch: Lunch at the Lakeside at Nuwarawewe.

Continue our drive through the verdant jungle scenery and small villages to our hotel.

 

EVENING

Dinner: at the hotel.

Overnight: The Geoffrey Bawa designed Heritance Kandalama

Thursday 15 June - DAMBULLA

MORNING

Board the coach for the thirty minute drive to Sigiriya Rock. Climb the steps to the top to fully enjoy the magnificent site and the views. For those who do not wish to do the full climb, enjoy the rock paintings at the lower level and explore the interesting garden design.

AFTERNOON

A one hour scenic drive to Polonnaruwa.

Lunch: at the Polonnaruwa Lake House.

After lunch, explore the well-preserved Polonnaruwa medieval period kingdom. Return to the hotel after this.

EVENING

Dinner: our own private dinner at the hotel.

Overnight: Heritance Kandalama

Friday 16 June - DAMBULLA TO KANDY

MORNING

Board the coach en route to Kandy, first visiting the historic Cave Temple in Dambulla.

 

AFTERNOON

Spices are such an important part of Sri Lanka’s history, food, and health care and Matele is the main spice plantation region.

Lunch: Our visit to a spice garden will be followed by a lunch in the gardens.

Continue on to Kandy after lunch.

 

 

 

EVENING

Dinner: A special experience – enjoy  a traditional dinner with drinks in a private home in Kandy, with the opportunity to watch or participate in some of the preparation.

Overnight: Cinnamon Citadel

Saturday 17 June - KANDY

MORNING

Today we visit the Temple of the Tooth, followed by a visit to the  beautiful Peredeniya Botanical Gardens, guided by a botanist.

 

AFTERNOON

Lunch: own arrangements.

Afternoon at leisure or explore the Kandy bazaar and museums on your own. We will offer a couple of shuttle services from the hotel.

 

EVENING

Late afternoon depart for the one –hour Kandyan dance show, followed by a pre-dinner drink at the colourful Helga’s Folly Anti-Hotel.

Dinner: own arrangements.

Sunday 18 June - KANDY TO NUWARA ELIYA

MORNING

Depart this morning for the scenic drive from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya.

En route we will visit Mackwood’s Tea Factory for a short tour, including tea and chocolate cake.

 

AFTERNOON

Lunch: at the Heritance Tea Factory.

Orientation drive around Nuwara Eliya before checking in to the hotel.

 

EVENING

Dinner: own arrangements.

Overnight: Grand Hotel Nuwara Eliya

Monday 19 June – NUWARA ELIYA TO TANGALLE

MORNING

Depart for a scenic drive to the coast, stopping at Elle Gap for its amazing view.

AFTERNOON

Lunch: own arrangements at Anantara Resort, Tangalla

Afternoon drive in minibuses to visit the Bawa designed Last House, and the thriving fishing port or Tangalle with its interesting Dutch colonial heritage.

Tuesday 20 June – TANGALLE TO GALLE

MORNING

Visit Mulkirigala Temple en route to Galle.

AFTERNOON

Lunch: own arrangements.

Visit Galle Fort for a walking tour and time at leisure to explore.

EVENING

Dinner: own arrangements.

Overnight: Jetwing Lighthouse Hotel.

Wednesday 21 June - GALLE

MORNING

Visit the SOS Children’s Village. This was designed by Anjalandran to look like a village, each house is set up as an individual home with a house ‘mother’ looking after a small group of children.

AFTERNOON

Lunch: own arrangements.

This afternoon is at leisure or visit the Hadungoda Tea Factory for a tour by Mr Herman Gunaratne, a specialist tea planter.

 

 

EVENING

Dinner: A farewell 7 course degustation dinner at Nihal’s at Jetwing Lighthouse.

Overnight: Jetwing Lighthouse.

DAY

Thursday 22 June – GALLE TO COLOMBO

MORNING

Leave for Colombo accompanied by an architect from the Geoffrey Bawa Foundation.

We will visit the Geoffrey Bawa designed Bentota Beach Hotel en route to his former country estate, Lunuganga.

AFTERNOON

Lunch: at Lunuganga.

Visit Brief Garden, the former home of Bevis Bawa.

Continue on to Blue Water Hotel – the last hotel designed by Geoffrey Bawa. We have organised some day use rooms to share among the group so people can shower and change or enjoy a swim before departing for the airport.

EVENING

Dinner: Buffet dinner at Blue Water Hotel.

Board the coach for the drive to the airport for our group flight, Singapore Airlines SQ469 at 1.10am on 23 June.
